Canyon Air

Driving out,
Up into the canyon,
With no warning,
No notice,
This is me running away.
Because sometimes
Even the familiarity
Of my own room
Seems to be too much.
Seems like it
Would suffocate me
If I stayed a moment’s more.
So I leave.
I flee the scene,
I get away
So that I can finally think clearly.
The fresh air helps
To calm nerves
I didn’t even know were straining.
With the trees
And the breeze,
The mountains rising up
All around me
Into the setting sun’s sky,
I can breathe.
My thoughts align.
Since no one knows I’m here,
I feel truly free.
Their expectations
Cannot find me here.
This is me running away.
Away from my problems,
My worries,
My life,
To a better place in my mind.
One where everything is orderly,
And I can return back;
Knowing I’ll be able to face
My chaotic life once more.
